Puttur, 13 Aug 2024 : St Philomena College launched a four-day induction program for the first-year degree students emphasizing the importance of human values, higher education, and cybercrime awareness. The program was presided over by the principal, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, who emphasized the fundamental purpose of education. “Education should instil human values in us. Without humanity, education is futile. Over the next three years, you will learn many things that should guide your future lives. To succeed professionally, students must develop skills like communication and courage,” Dr Monteiro stated and led the students in a pledge against drug consumption.

Vice-Principal Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar followed with a lecture on the significance of higher education, as a prelude to the academic journey of the students.

The program also featured an enlightening session by Dakshina Kannada District Cybercrime Division DYSP Mr Manjunath R G, who spoke on the legal consequences and societal impacts of drug use. He urged students to take an active role in raising awareness about cybercrimes, highlighting that even well-educated individuals can fall into these traps. He detailed the punishments under the law.

Mr Manjunath T, Sub–Inspector, Dakshina Kannada Cyber Crime Department, captivated the audience with real-life examples of how to safeguard their privacy on social media and avoid falling victim to various cybercrimes. He provided practical advice on preventing social media account hacking and protecting personal information online.

Pooja and her team rendered prayer. Dr Malini K, Dean of Science Faculty and IQAC Coordinator, welcomed and provided an introduction to the program. Mr Vinayachandra, Dean of the Computer Science Department proposed vote of thanks. The program was compered by Dr Edwin D’Souza, Assistant Professor of the Chemistry Department.
