Vamanjoor, Sep 14 : The Taluk-Level Throwball Tournament was held on 13th September 2024 at St. Raymond's PU College, Vamanjoor. The event, organized by the Department of Education (Pre University, D.K) aimed to promote throwball and provide a platform for local talent to showcase their skills. The primary objective of the tournament was to encourage community participation in sports and to identify and nurture throwball talent at the taluk level. 32 teams of boys and girls from different colleges participated in the tournament.
The Tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Sr. Mariola BS, Deputy Secretary, Bethany Education Society, Mangalore Province Coordinator for Education and Correspondent of St. Raymond’s PU College. “Life is a game filled with challenges. Winning or losing is just a part of it. What matters the most is your hard work, intelligence, determination and patience” she said to the young minds.
Mr. Subbaraya Kamath, Mangalore Taluk Sports Coordinator and Physical Director of Besant PU College along with Sr. Vithalis BS, Superior of St Raymond's convent were the Chief guest for the event. The other dignitaries on the dais were Sr. Anita Lydia BS, Principal, St. Raymond’s PU College, and heads of various St. Raymond’s institutions.
The tournament was a feast to the spectators as the participants put their best foot forward to win the game for their respective teams. The entire event was a high voltage experience as the teams presented a spirited performance with mighty throws, Intelligent drops and match turning serves.
The top teams from the knockout rounds played the finals to determine the winner. The teams qualified for the finals among boys and girls were St. Raymond's PU College and St. Aloysius PU College. Both the final matches between boys as well as girls witnessed a tough fight between the teams. Moving shoulder to shoulder both the teams kept the spectators guessing till the end. After a tough tussle, St. Raymond’s PU College among girls and St. Aloysius PU College among boys emerged as champions of the tournament. Among the boys Vaishnav from St. Raymond's PU College was awarded best thrower, Manvith from St. Aloysius PU College was awarded best receiver and Nazran from St Aloysius PU College was awarded all rounder. Among the girls, Israth Banu from St. Raymond’s PU College bagged Best thrower, Sanjana from St. Aloysius PU College bagged Best receiver and Ramsheena from St. Raymonds PU College bagged All rounder.
The tournament was a significant success, with enthusiastic participation and high levels of competition. The event fostered a spirit of sportsmanship and provided valuable experience for all participants. The organizing committee extends its gratitude to sponsors, all the teams, officials, volunteers, and spectators for their contributions to the successful execution of the tournament.
