The Holy Cross Church of Kulshekar in Mangaluru, famously known as ‘Cordel Church’ marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its post-centenary golden jubilee on Sunday, September 17, 2023. The celebratory Mass was officiated by the Most Reverend Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, the Bishop of the Mangalore Diocese. Joining him were several esteemed clergy members, including Reverend Father James D’Souza, the Dean of the Mangalore City Episcopal Varado, Reverend Father Clifford Fernandes, the Parish Priest of Cordel Church, as well as Assistant Parish Priests Father Ivan Cordeiro and Father Paul D’Souza, along with other guest priests.
During the occasion, Bishop Saldanha delivered a powerful sermon and offered his blessings to the gathered congregation. The event saw the participation of numerous religious priests, religious sisters, members of Kulashekar Church, and devoted followers from various other congregations who came together to join in the celebrations.
Following the Holy Mass, a special felicitation ceremony took place, where a total of 103 individuals were honored. This distinguished group included past and present parish priests, as well as assistant priests who had faithfully served at Cordel Church, and clergy members who had strong ties to the church.

Cordel parish to celebrate 150 yrs under patronage of Holy Cross
Sept 14, 2023 : On the occasion of completing 150 years of Holy Cross Church, Cordel, a Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated by vicar general of Mangalore diocese Msgr Maxim Noronha accompanied by Fr Clifford Fernandes (parish priest), Fr Ivan Cordeiro and Fr Paul D’Souza (assistant parish priest), with the parish pastoral council members, guest priests and sisters and the parishioners attending the Holy Mass in large numbers. Fr Maxim Noronha preached the Word of God and wished the faithful gathered many blessings of the Holy Cross.
The Holy Mass was followed by a felicitation programme for the founders, benefactors, past vice presidents and secretaries of the parish pastoral council and the gurkars. A total of 206 people were felicitated for their selfless service in the growth of Holy Cross Church, Cordel.
