Puttur, 6 April 2025 : In a well-curated educational initiative, the Department of BZC (Botany, Zoology, Chemistry) at St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, organized a one-day academic field visit for its students on Thursday. The meticulously planned tour was aimed at offering students a dynamic learning experience beyond classroom walls, focusing on subjects such as anatomy, heritage, astronomy, and environmental conservation.

The group, comprising 41 enthusiastic students, departed the college premises at 6:30 AM under the attentive guidance of faculty coordinators Mrs Smitha Vivek and Ms Shivani Mallya. The first stop was the Manipal Museum of Anatomy and Pathology, renowned for its vast and meticulously preserved collection of human and animal anatomical specimens. Here, students gained firsthand insight into biological structures, significantly enhancing their theoretical understanding through real-world observation.

Next on the itinerary was the Hastha Shilpa Heritage Museum, a treasure trove of restored traditional homes and artifacts that celebrate the rich cultural and architectural history of Karnataka. The visit not only provided an appreciation for the region’s heritage but also instilled awareness about the importance of preserving indigenous art and architecture.

The journey then took a cosmic turn at the TMA Pai Planetarium, where students were introduced to the wonders of astronomy and space science through immersive shows and exhibits. This segment proved particularly fascinating, as it bridged science education with curiosity-driven learning.

Concluding the tour was a visit to Salumarada Thimmakka Park, a site that stands as a living tribute to the celebrated environmentalist known for her afforestation efforts. The park served as a reminder of ecological responsibility and sustainable living, aligning with the environmental science component of the students’ curriculum.

The field visit was unanimously regarded as a resounding success, with students expressing gratitude for the opportunity to engage in multidisciplinary learning through direct exposure to explore, inquire, and grow beyond academic boundaries.
