Moodbidri, Jan 8 : The ICYM Moodbidri Unit marked a significant milestone on December 22, 2024, celebrating its Golden Jubilee with a day filled with gratitude, joy, and reflection on 50 years of service. The momentous occasion began with a Thanksgiving Mass at 7:30 a.m., celebrated by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza, the Former Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, along with Rev. Fr. Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, Director of ICYM Mangalore Diocese, and V. Rev. Fr. Onil Dsouza, Director of ICYM Moodbidri Unit and Parish Priest of Corpus Christi Church, Moodbidri.
Following the mass, the celebratory atmosphere continued with a flag hoisting ceremony. The ICYM Moodbidri Golden Jubilee flag was unfurled by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza in the presence of Rev. Fr. Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, V. Rev. Fr. Onil Dsouza, and Mr. Vincent Dsouza, Vice President of the Parish Council. The ceremony was made special by the welcoming of dignitaries by Mr. Vian Dsouza, President of ICYM Moodbidri, who offered bouquets to the esteemed guests. As the ICYM Anthem was sung, Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging the youth to showcase their talents and leadership, urging them to "keep the flag flying high."
The morning segment concluded with the distribution of prizes for various competitions held in connection with the Golden Jubilee celebrations. These included a Drawing Competition, Quiz Competition, and Crib and Star Competition. A memento was also presented to Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul Dsouza by Mr. Vian Dsouza, as a gesture of gratitude. Ms. Divita Fernandes served as the convenor for this event.
The stage programme began at 5:00 p.m. on the grounds of Corpus Christi Church, Moodbidri, with a graceful welcome dance performed by Marian Sodality girls. The dignitaries were then escorted to the dais by ICYM President Mr. Vian Dsouza, Secretary Ms. Ishal Rebello, and Vice President Mr. Austin Rodrigues. Distinguished guests on the dais included Bishop of Shimoga Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao as the President of the programme, ICYM Mangalore Diocese Director Rev. Fr. Ashwin Lohith Cardoza as the Inaugurators, ICYM Moodbidri Unit Director V. Rev. Fr. Onil Dsouza,Vice President of Parish Council Mr. Vincent Dsouza, Convener of 21 Commissions Mrs. Celine Dsouza, ICYM Mangalore Diocese President Mr. Winston Sequeira, ICYM Mangalore Diocese Joint Secretary Dr. Joyston Dsouza, ICYM Varado President Mr. Javin Dsouza, ICYM Moodbidri Unit Animators Mr. Kevin Dsouza and Mr. Royston Pinto, ICYM Moodbidri Unit President Mr. Vian Dsouza and Secretary Ms. Ishal Rebello.
Rev. Fr. Ashwin Lohith Cardoza inaugurated the event by unveiling the Golden Jubilee banner. His speech motivated the youth to actively engage in ICYM, emphasizing the numerous benefits it offers. This was followed by the delivery of the annual report by Ms. Ishal Rebello, Secretary of ICYM Moodbidri.
To honor the contributions of past leaders, all Presidents and Secretaries who have served the Unit over the last 50 years were felicitated. Special recognition was given to the longest-serving animator of ICYM Moodbidri Mrs. Leena Pinto for her selfless dedication. Nithyadhar Ward was declared the overall champion of the Golden Jubilee Cup, while Infant Mary Ward secured the runners-up position.
The ceremony also featured the felicitation of V. Rev. Fr. Onil Dsouza for his unwavering support, followed by his address, in which he praised the youth for their dedication in organizing the event. As a token of respect and affection, Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao was honored by the unit, and he addressed the gathering with his presidential remarks. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Austin Rodrigues, Vice President of ICYM Moodbidri.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations continued with an engaging cultural programme that included performances by the YCS Moodbidri Unit, a mime show by Altar Boys, and a vibrant dance performance by ICYM Moodbidri Unit members. A series of clips showcasing the preparation and past events of ICYM were displayed on an LED wall. The programme culminated with a drama titled Marcelache Parcel, which brought the evening to a lively conclusion.
Refreshments were served between the cultural programmes followed by dinner in the end. The cultural event was convened by Mr. Rolan Lobo and Ms. Rachel Dsouza.
The Golden Jubilee of ICYM Moodbidri Unit was a celebration of history, dedication, and the continuous efforts of youth in service to their community. The event not only reflected on the past 50 years of the Unit’s contributions but also inspired future generations to carry the flag of ICYM forward with pride and commitment. With heartfelt thanks, motivation, and celebration, the mood was set for many more years of growth and service.
