Mangaluru, April 2, 2025 : Prem Moras has completed his Ph.D. in Konkani, making him the first person in Karnataka to earn a doctorate in the Konkani language.
His father, the late Paul Moras, was the president of the Konkani Language Board of Karnataka. His mother, Juliette Moras, currently serves as the Assistant Secretary.
This achievement marks a significant recognition for the Konkani language in Karnataka. The Konkani Language Board of Karnataka (KBMK) celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with an event held at the Mangalore Town Hall. The event also helped establish the Konkani Academy. The World Konkani Mother Language Conference was organized, and with a budget of 14 lakh rupees, the Konkani Language and Culture Center was established at Shaktinagar, with the late Basti Vaman Shenai serving as its first president. The center is still used for Konkani events today.
The movement to recognize Konkani as the eighth scheduled language was a significant global effort, and Karnataka played an important role in this campaign.
Under the leadership of current executive president K. Vasanth Rao, the work continues to progress.
