Puttur , 2 April 2025 : Yakshakala Kendra and Performing Arts Unit of the college, celebrated World Theatre Day at the PG Seminar Hall of St Philomena College (Autonomous). The event brought together students, faculty, and art enthusiasts to honour the significance of theatre as a cultural and creative medium.
The event featured a special lecture by Dr Malini K, IQAC Coordinator and Dean of the Science Department, who served as the resource person. Speaking on the topic “Creativity in Theatre”, Dr. Malini emphasized the evolving nature of theatre and its need to embrace new forms and expressions while retaining its essence. She invited students to actively experience and engage with the performative aspects of theatre, underlining its creative and transformative power.
Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro presided over the function and delivered an inspiring presidential address. Quoting art as “a divine gift,” he remarked, “Nurturing and cultivating art is the true offering we make to the divine.” He encouraged students to participate creatively and actively across various forms of artistic expression, strengthening the role of the arts in holistic education and character building.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Mr Prashanth Rai, Coordinator of the Yakshakala Kendra and Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration. Mrs Suraksha Rai, Coordinator of Yakshamrutha, delivered the vote of thanks.
The proceedings were efficiently compered by Sridevi, a third-year B.Sc. student. The event began with a prayer led by Surabhi (III B.Sc.) and Manasa (I B.Sc.), students from the Performing Arts Unit.
