Puttur, 24 September 2024 : In a heartwarming initiative, the Anti-Women Harassment Cell and Youth Red Cross of St Philomena College, in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Mangalore, and Shikha Beauty Parlour, organized a hair donation drive at the PG seminar hall of the college. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students and staff, with 11 students donating their hair for the noble cause of helping cancer patients.
The inaugural program was presided over by the Vice Principal of the college, Dr Vijay Kumar Moleyar, who spoke about the importance of serving society. “We owe obligations to family, God, and society. Obligations to society can be fulfilled by serving the needy, and there’s no greater reward than bringing a smile to someone’s face,” he said.
Rev. Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, Director of ICYM Central Council, Mangalore Diocese, graced the event as the guest of honour. He encouraged the students, saying, “Donating requires courage. Cancer patients often lose confidence, and losing their hair can be another setback. Seeing them smile again is why we have organized this hair donation drive.”
Mrs Noveline N Dsouza, convener of the Anti-Women Harassment Cell, delivered the introductory remarks. The event began with Riya from III BSc invoking blessings. Rumaiz of II BCA welcomed. Tanzeela proposed vote of thanks and Tincy Thomas of III BCom compered the event.
Nihal Sequiera, Secretary of ICYM Central Council, and Pramila, proprietor of Shikha Beauty Parlour were also present on stage, supporting this meaningful initiative that promises to bring hope and confidence to cancer patients.
