Moodbidri, May 6 : On Sunday, May 5th, 2024, Corpus Christi Church here was filled with an air of reverence and jubilation as 24 children received their First Holy Communion. Led by Reverend Fr. Onil D’Souza and accompanied by eight other priests, the holy Eucharistic mass commenced at 8 am.
Before the mass, 15 girls and 9 boys with the age group of 10 years, adorned in their finest white attire, were escorted to the church entrance by the Corpus Christi Church children band, along with their proud parents and the clergy. During the liturgy, the First Holy Communion children themselves conducted the proceedings, with the melodious support of the Corpus Christi Church choir.
In his heartfelt homily, Reverend Fr. Roshan Periera drew parallels between the essential elements of life, such as water and soil, and emphasized the necessity of Jesus Christ in leading a fulfilling life. Reflecting on the theme of 'God's love,' the priests reiterated the importance of loving one another, echoing the divine love bestowed upon humanity.
Addressing the parents of the First Holy Communion candidates, Fr. Periera urged them to uphold Christian values and virtues in nurturing their children, reminiscent of the vows taken during their wedding ceremonies.
As the mass concluded, each child was presented with blessed rosaries and scapulars, symbolizing their spiritual journey ahead. Reverend Fr. Onil D’Souza extended gratitude to Sr. Ranitha AC for her dedicated efforts in preparing the children, along with the catechism teachers.
The celebration culminated with a communal breakfast, symbolizing the fellowship and unity among the attendees. It was indeed a day filled with blessings, as the Corpus Christi Church community embraced these young souls on their spiritual path.
