Bejai, March 22 : The ICYM unit of St Francis Xavier Church, Bejai along with the parish Commission for Youth, organised Bejai Inter-Ward Cricket League at Lourdes Central School Ground on March 17, 2024.

The event started at 8:30 A.M. with a prayer song. ICYM President - Ms Sonali Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. The event was inaugurated by Sr. Cicilia Crasta, ICYM Animator, and was accompanied by Fr. Leston Lobo, Mr Ashok Pinto, PPP Vice-President, Mrs Avitha Pinto, PPP Secretary, Mr Godwin Pinto, 21 Commissions Secretary, and Mrs Sylvia D'Costa, Secretary for the Commission for Youth. The MC for the inaugural ceremony was Ms Aarlyn Lobo - ICYM Sports Secretary.

The day continued with the matches being played between the ward's, along with a team from the parish, which consisted of the priests of the parish and the sisters from St. Angela Convent. The umpires for the matches were Mr Sanjay D'Cruz and Mr. Samson D'Silva.

18 teams participated in the cricket league. The final match was played between the Nithyadhar Mai Ward, Kapikad Lower and Our Lady of Velankanni Ward, KPT Saga.

The winners are as follows:

• Winner's Trophy : Nithyadhar Mai Ward, Kapikad Lower
• Runners-up Trophy : Our Lady of Velankanni Ward, KPT Saga
• Best Batsman: Mr. Anil of Nithyadhar Mai Ward, Kapikad Lower
• Best Bowler: Mr. Rajesh of Our Lady of Velankanni Ward, KPT Saga

At the end of the day, the prizes were distributed by Rev. Fr. J. B. Saldanha – Parish Priest and ICYM Bejai Director and Rev. Fr. Robert Dsouza – Principal Lourdes Central School. The list was read by Ms Shiny Lewis - ICYM Cultural Secretary, followed by a vote of thanks from Mr Vion Lobo - ICYM Secretary. The MC for the evening ceremony was done by Mr Ashley Pinto - ICYM Vice-President.
