Mangaluru, Feb 21 : "What we do should be appreciated by others  and we should work to build a strong community and should engage in social service to respond to the hardships of others" – Very Rev Fr Oswald Monteiro , Parish Priest Kirem Church and Vicar Forane St Jude Mangalore North Deanery.

ICYM Central Council, Mangalore Diocese in collaboration with ICYM St Jude, Mangalore North Deanery and ICYM Kirem Unit hosted the 10th  Diocesan Youth Convention – 2023 with the theme “ Faith filled families build a strong community” from 17th  to 19th February 2023 at Kirem Church Hall.

Dignitaries formally inaugurated the programme by releasing the balloons in the air. Very Rev Fr Oswald Monteiro was the guest of honor of the inaugural programme, he congratulated the youth for organizing such a useful youth conference and called the youth to build a strong community with faith filled families.

Mr Alwyn Patrao recapitulated his CYM days and shared his feelings and experience being a former president of CYM long ago.

Mr Jaison Lawrence Crasta – Former President ICYM Central Council and Ms Viola Reshma Lewis – Lady Representative ICYM Karnataka Region were honoured by the dignitaries for receiving KRCBC- Yuva Ratna Award.

President of the programme Msgr Maxim L Noronha addressed the gathering saying that youth plays an important role in building a strong community.

Members of Kirem unit evoked God’s blessings through a prayer song, Ms Wilma Lobo- President Puttur Deanery compered the programme, Mr Anil John Sequeira welcomed the gathering, Dr Nishal Preemal Dsouza delivered the vote of thanks.  Inaugural ceremony was followed by a cultural programme by the youth of ICYM St Jude Mangalore North Deanery.

Day 2 – 18.02.2023

The day began with the holy Eucharistic celebration at Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem. Rev Fr Sunil D Souza, during the mass prayed for all the youth of the diocese.

This was followed a session on YOUCAT by Rev Fr Vijay Machado, workshop on Mental Health by Dr Priyanka Renita Dsouza – Senior Resident Department of Psychiatry KMC Mangalore , Panel Discussion on Government jobs by Mrs Amline Dsouza – Inspector Commercial Tax Government of Karnataka , agriculture by Mr Rohith Rosario – Founder Rosario Agro Industries and Self-employment by Mr Ronald Silvan Dsouza - Founder and Executive Director LEKSA Lightings PVT Ltd Mangalore.

Rev Fr Steevan Lobo OCD spoke about the importance of Prayer through an experience. Yuvaspoorthi Rev Fr Ronald Prakash Dsouza along with Blue Angels Choir conducted Taize prayer in the evening.

All the delegates actively involved themselves in the animation, games and group activities. The day was concluded with a cultural programme by all the groups.

Day 3 – 19.02.2023

All the delegates took part in the Sunday mass held at  Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem celebrated by Rev Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza. After the holy mass a Hair donation Drive was conducted in the church premises where 21 donors including a male donated their hair for a good cause.

An Interactive session was conducted with Mr Joyal Mendonca and Mr Lawrence Dsouza the leaders of 2 different political parties in order to sensitize our youth towards the importance of youth involvement in the development of the society, and a workshop on Marriage and family life, by Rev Fr Anil Alfred Dsouza and team.

Former DEXCO members, senior youth and local community visited the conference venue and relived their days in ICYM.

The concluding ceremony commenced at noon. Mr Nevin Antony – President ICYM Karnataka Region was the chief guest for the valedictory programme. He congratulated the youth for organizing and participating in the conference and he continued saying that youth will learn more things by taking part in youth activities through which youth can reach the peak of success.

Mr Richard Saldanha - ICYM Animator Kirem unit,  Volunteers of St Jude North Deanery and Kirem Unit were honored for their service beyond measure.

Ms Edel Saldanha-Amcho Yuvak/Media Rep compered the Valedictory Programme, Ms Marvel Mathias welcomed the gathering and Mr Anil John Sequeira and Mr Brian Pereira  thanked everyone who helped in the success of DYC 2023.

Around 380 youth including Volunteers, DEXCO and Council members actively participated in the event. Conference ended with the ICYM theme song.
