Puttur, March 19, 2025 : Students of St Philomena (Autonomous) College displayed an outstanding performance at the Mangalore University-level Inter-Collegiate Weightlifting Championship held at Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapur, securing multiple medals and accolades.

In the women’s category, the college secured the Runner-Up Trophy with several remarkable achievements. Spandana, a second-year B.Sc. student, won the gold medal in the 45 kg category. Shivani Machayya, also from the third-year B.Sc. program, clinched the silver medal in the 49 kg category. Chaitrika, a second year B.Sc. student, won the bronze medal, while Drishya, another first-year B.Sc. student, secured silver in the 55 kg category. Beula, a second-year M.Com. student, secured gold in the 64 kg category. Varsha from second-year BCA won bronze in the 71 kg category, Chamisha from first-year BCA earned bronze in the 74 kg category, and Prithvi from first-year B.Com. secured bronze in the 87+ kg category.

In the men’s category, the college secured the third position at the university level. Ranjith Kumar, a third BA clinched gold in the 109 kg category. Shabarish Rai, a third-year B.Com. student, won gold in the 89 kg category, while Yatheesh, another third-year B.Com. student, secured a silver medal.

The Correspondent of the College Very Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mascarenhas and principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Montero, extended their heartfelt congratulations to the winners. Faculty members and non-teaching staff also joined in celebrating the students’ achievements. Special appreciation was extended to the Physical Education Director, Dr Elias Pinto, for his invaluable guidance and support in nurturing the athletes.
