Puttur, 7 March 2025: In an initiative to promote and preserve the rich oral traditions of Tulu Nadu, Mangalore University, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Tulu Peetha, in collaboration with St Philomena (Autonomous) College Tulu Sahitya Sangha, organized ‘Genoda Bottu’,a special lecture program on oral folk preservation. The event, held in the PG Seminar Hall, aimed at deepening students’ understanding of Tulu language and culture, nurturing appreciation for its literary and historical significance.

The program was inaugurated by Kumbra Durga Prasada Rai, a member of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, who enlightened students on the customs and traditions of Tulu Nadu. Delivering the keynote address, Jayalakshmi Rajendra Shetty, Lecturer at the Department of Postgraduate Studies, University College, Mangalore, emphasized the scientific significance and ethical values embedded in Tulu oral folklore and rituals, urging the younger generation to recognize their cultural roots.

Dr Madhav M.K., Coordinator of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Tulu Peetha, provided insights into the structural programs undertaken by the Peetha to safeguard and promote the Tulu language. Presiding over the event, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro stressed that Tulu is the heartbeat of Tulu Nadu, calling for collective efforts to preserve its linguistic and cultural heritage.

The event was graced by Raymond D’Cunha Thakode, editor of Pingara magazine, and Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, Vice-Principal of St Philomena College. Prashantha Rai, Coordinator of the Tulu Sahitya Sangha, extended a warm welcome. Akshata B. Rai proposed a vote of thanks. The event commenced with an invocation by students of Yaksha Kala Kendra, and Prasad from Tulu Peetha compered the session.
