Puttur, March 3, 2025 : St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, celebrated National Science Day 2025 on February 28, marking the discovery of the Raman Effect by the renowned Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman. The event, organized by the Science Forum of the College, emphasized the significance of scientific inquiry and innovation in shaping the future.

The program was presided over by the Principal of the College, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, who administered the Science Day Oath to students and faculty members, reinforcing their commitment to scientific pursuit and ethical responsibility. In his presidential address, he underscored the importance of fostering a scientific temper among students and encouraged them to adopt a curiosity-driven approach to learning. He remarked, “Science looks out of the windows of philosophy,” highlighting the reflective relationship between scientific discovery and philosophical thought.

The event featured Dr B.K. Vishu Kumar, Managing Director of Aventura Agro Products, Mysore, as the resource person. In his inspiring address, Dr Kumar emphasized that science is not just a subject but a way of exploring and understanding the world. He urged students to remain inquisitive and innovative, stating, “The world needs more scientists like you.” He encouraged them to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Chemistry, and Mathematics (STEM) to contribute meaningfully to the scientific community.

A book release also featured the day on ‘Environmental Studies’, authored by Mrs Smitha Vivek, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, and Ms Shivani Mallya, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology. The book was unveiled by the principal, Chief guest,Registrar of Evaluation Dr Vinayachandra and other dignitaries.

As part of the celebrations, the Science Forum organized ‘Sci-fusion,’a week-long series of scientific competitions that provided students with a platform to showcase their scientific talents. The winners were felicitated during the event, recognizing their outstanding performances in various competitions.

The program witnessed active participation from the faculty and students, with approximately 140 students in attendance. Dr Malini K, Dean of Science, and Dr Edwin S. D’Souza, Convener of the Science Forum, played key roles in coordinating the event alongside Ms Shriraksha B.V. The program commenced with a prayer led by Manasa and her group, followed by a welcome address delivered by Shreedevi, President of the Science Forum. Ashlesh, Secretary of the Science Forum, proposed the vote of thanks. Ria D’Souza compered the event.
