Puttur , Dec 3 : The Consumer Forum of St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, organized a three-day outreach workshop on Consumer Rights and duties from 27 November to 29 November, 2024. The workshop aimed to raise consumer awareness among primary and secondary school students at three institutions: Govt. Higher Secondary School, Mukve, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Thingaladi, and Govt. Higher Secondary School, Savanoor Mogaru.
The sessions were led by the convenors, Mr Praveen D and Mrs Swathi Shetty, along with the active participation of the student members of the Forum. They delivered engaging sessions to educate students about consumer rights, the prevalence of unfair trade practices, and the importance of becoming vigilant and conscious consumers. The workshop emphasized the need for students to recognize their responsibilities as consumers, including checking standard marks and understanding product contents before making purchases.
To make the sessions interactive and memorable, students were engaged in fun activities such as games and quizzes, which tested their understanding of the topics discussed. Visual aids, including PowerPoint presentations and charts, were employed to ensure effective communication of concepts. These tools helped the young participants grasp the nuances of consumer awareness and inspired them to spread this knowledge within their communities.
The outreach program also aimed to empower students to be proactive in identifying and addressing unfair trade practices. Through these efforts, the workshop not only educated the participants but also sought to cultivate a sense of responsibility in them to influence those around them positively.
The programme was conducted under the valuable guidance of Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur.
The unwavering support of the school heads contributed to the resounding success of the program.
