Mangaluru, Aug 15 : St. Theresa's School commemorated India's 78th Independence Day with fervor and deep patriotism, honouring the nation's sovereignty, freedom, and unity. The celebration was a powerful tribute to the ideals guiding India's progress and development.

To mark this significant occasion, a Holy Eucharist was offered at St. Sebastian Church, Bendur, on 8th August, 2024. The school community gathered to give thanks for two important events: the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and India's Independence Day. Rev. Fr. Ivan D'Souza, the celebrant, urged everyone to emulate Mother Mary's selflessness and seek her guidance for virtuous living. During the service, the staff and students fervently prayed for peace and harmony throughout the nation.

The main Independence Day celebration took place on 15th August, 2024, on the school grounds, where every Theresian felt profound pride and joy. The dignitaries were welcomed with a formal guard of honour by the school band, led by Neha R.

Dr. Rochelle Monteiro was the Chief Guest, and Sr. Shaila, BS, the School Correspondent, added grace with her distinguished presence. They were escorted to the dais by our Principal, Sr. Lourdes, Vice Principal, Sr. Reena, and PTA Vice President, Collette Cabral.

The ceremony began with Dr. Rochelle Monteiro hoisting the Indian National Flag, followed by the entire school community singing the National Anthem. This was followed by a meticulously executed march past by students from various houses. Sr. Shaila, BS, the School Correspondent, received the salute from the synchronized school parade, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums.

A solemn prayer service invoked divine blessings for the nation and its citizens. Annika, a student of Class 7, welcomed the gathering. Students then showcased their talents with a captivating welcome dance performance, setting the tone for the celebrations.

Student speakers Powell and Spoorthi highlighted the significance of Independence Day, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters.

The cultural programme continued with a vibrant dance performance symbolizing independence and a melodious song capturing the spirit of the day.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Rochelle addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech, emphasizing the crucial role of education in shaping the nation's future. She highlighted that students have a vital role in building a better tomorrow and encouraged them to strive for excellence. Expressing gratitude to the leaders who sacrificed their lives for India's freedom, she commended the students for their outstanding performance. Drawing inspiration from Dr. Abdul Kalam, she urged the students to "dream, dream, and dream," reminding them that dreams are the foundation of a brighter future.

The parade competition was judged in two categories:

In the first category, NCC Platoon 1 secured first place, followed by NCC Platoon 2 in second place.

In the second category:
- Boys: The Yellow House claimed first place, with the Red House in second place.
- Girls: The Yellow House also won first place, with the Red House in second place.

Trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up by Sr. Shaila.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving students and staff with a renewed sense of patriotism and unity, inspiring all to contribute meaningfully to the nation's ongoing progress.
