Mangaluru, June 21 : The celebration of International Yoga Day at Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru was a harmonious blend of Culture and Wellness, marked by a series of meticulously organized activities that underscored the significance of yoga in one’s daily life.
The celebration for the seniors hosted by the students of grade X, commenced with a serene prayer led by the students setting a peaceful tone for the rest of the events. This was followed by an enchanting welcome dance, deeply rooted in traditional Indian culture. The dance, characterized by its grace and elegance, symbolized the harmony of body, mind and spirit, leaving the audience spellbound. Cheryl Tauro then took to the stage to accord a cordial welcome. She greeted the dignitaries and the audience, providing a brief introduction of the chief guest, Mr Kushalappa Gowda N, Yoga Therapist, Avishkar Yoga, Mangaluru. Principal, Sr Melissa, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest by presenting him a sapling, symbolizing growth and harmony.
A brief yet informative presentation on the significance of International Yoga Day was given by students Diya, Pranav and Dhanya, supported by a PowerPoint presentation. They highlighted the origins of yoga and its global recognition by the United Nations, emphasizing its universal appeal and benefits. Adding to the atmosphere, a group of students sang the Yoga Anthem, resonating themes of peace, unity and wellness. This was followed by a unique thematic dance performance that seamlessly blended aerobics, Zumba and yoga. The synchronization of various yoga poses and movements illustrated the beauty and discipline of yoga, captivating the audience.
The chief guest, Mr Kushalappa Gowda N shared his personal journey with yoga, providing profound insights on transforming one's life through its practice. He highlighted the 5 benefits of yoga, based on the principles of non-attachment, non-violence and universal brotherhood. He also demonstrated a few aasanas for students to practise in their daily routine. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Chryseline Fernandes expressing deep gratitude to the chief guest, principal, staff and the students, appreciating everyone's effort in making the programme a grand success. Kripalee and Yuganth compeered the programme. This was followed by practice of yogasanas by the students.
The programme for the juniors hosted by the students of grade IV A and B witnessed a vibrant celebration at the school auditorium that highlighted the theme of the year “Yoga for Self and Society”, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry and the universal appeal of yoga. It commenced with a solemn prayer service that beautifully interwove Hindi, Kannada and English hymns. This multilingual invocation set a harmonious tone for the day, embodying the inclusive spirit of yoga that transcends linguistic and cultural barriers. Following the prayer service, the audience was treated to a unique welcome dance. The performance, a fusion of traditional and contemporary styles, was a visual delight. The dancers moved gracefully to the rhythm, inviting the audience to partake in the celebration of life and health. One of the highlights of the event was an engaging skit that showcased the essence of yoga. Through a creative narrative, the performers depicted how yoga can transform lives, promoting physical health, mental clarity and spiritual growth. Adding to the day’s splendor was a combined performance of yoga and Nritya illustrating various yoga postures, blended with dance movements.
The chief guest Madam Susheela Kumari V, Yoga Instructress, Delampady Yoga Prathistana and Retd. Principal of KPT, Mangaluru, spoke about the essence and importance of yoga in one’s daily life. She also displayed some yoga postures like warrior pose (Virabhadrasana) and Back Bend pose (Anuvittasana). The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks.
In the evening, the students of NCC, Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Bulbuls celebrated the day with some significant activities and practice of yogasanas.
To add glory to the day’s celebration, the school’s yoga team bagged the 1st prize under senior category in the inter school Yoga Competition organised by Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Konchady.
Thus the celebration served as a reminder of the timeless wisdom of yoga encouraging all to embrace a healthier and more mindful way of living.
