Puttur , 22 May 2024 : A career guidance program titled ‘Unlocking the Path: Navigating Careers in the Banking Sector’ was organized at the PG Seminar Hall of St Philomena College. The event was a collaborative effort by the Department of Commerce and Department of Business Administration, the Training and Placement Cell, and the Puttur Legions of Senior Chamber International. The program aimed to provide students with insights into the banking sector and enhance their career prospects.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the principal of the college, presided over the event. In his address, he highlighted the significance of the banking sector as a cornerstone of global financial stability and growth. “Banking is a field with abundant job opportunities. Our aim is to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the skills, qualifications, and professional certifications that enhance students’ career prospects. This program will help you to know the ins and outs of the banking world and stay competitive and alert in your career. Knowledge and guidance from experts are helpful before embarking on a professional journey,” he stated.
Mrs Mallika J. Rai, President of Puttur Legion of Senior Chamber International, participated as the guest of honour. She emphasized the ample employment opportunities available in the banking sector for students of the Department of Commerce and encouraged them to consider banking as a feasible career path.
Mr Prashantha S., Project Officer at Bank of Baroda, Puttur Region, served as the resource person for the event. He provided detailed guidance on pursuing a career in the banking sector, explaining various career paths such as retail banking, investment banking, and wealth management. He also discussed the necessary skills and qualifications, the importance of professional certifications like relevant banking exams, networking, internships, and staying updated with financial regulations and technology trends to remain competitive in the industry.
