Puttur , March 3, 2024 : The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of St Philomena college coordinated a compelling voting awareness program within the college premises on March 2, aiming to instil a sense of civic responsibility among students. Resource person Dr K Chandrashekhar, Head of the Department of Physics, called attention of the students to the significance of voting in upholding the principles of democracy. Emphasizing that voting is not merely a right but also a duty, Dr Chandrashekhar urged the young students to recognize their responsibility and actively engage in the electoral process. He elucidated the historical context and importance of the democratic system, highlighting its role as the foundation of a just society.
Presiding over the function was Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, the Vice Principal of the college, who reiterated Dr Chandrashekhar’s sentiments. Dr Moleyar emphasized the need for voters to make informed decisions and stressed that neglecting the voting process could have far-reaching implications for governance. He asserted that citizen participation in elections is essential for ensuring a progressive and accountable government.
