Puttur , Jan 20, 2024 : A one-day workshop on ‘Financial Education for Young Citizens’ was jointly organized by the Institution’s Innovation Council and the PG Department of Commerce at St Philomena College PG Seminar Hall recently.
The formal session was presided over by the Principal of the College, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monterio, who spoke on the importance of learning, absorbing, and practicing new things. The students were urged to make sufficient use of all the opportunities provided, stay thrilled, and be curious for adventures and experiments. The enhancement of their skills was emphasized as their own responsibility.
The resource person for the workshop was Dr Sharan Shetty, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research & Innovation, Texila American University Zambia who acknowledged the distinction of St Philomena College nationally and internationally. He congratulated the students for choosing the institution highlighting the value of education provided. Dr Shetty also emphasized the importance of PG education and advised students to concentrate on their studies and be hardworking for a successful career.
In the technical session, Dr Sharan Shetty deliberated on financial education to the students, covering the importance of savings, investment, and finance management. The session included insights into the time value of money, the uses of making investments in gold and shares, and information regarding stock markets, Demat accounts, and trading accounts. A total of 71 students actively participated in the workshop.
The prayer was led by Jashmitha and team, while Shreeraga extended a warm welcome. Zubieda proposed the vote of thanks, and the program was compered by Darshini. Harshith R, Coordinator, PG Department of Commerce, and Pruthvi K, Shravya N S, Swathi, Assistant Professors in the Department, were present on the occasion.
