Moodbidri : Saverapura Parish comes into being as 116th Parish of Mangalore Diocese

Moodbidri, June 7 : On Sunday 7th June 2015, on the The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), Saverapura Chapel was raised to the Canonical Status of a Parish at the Eucharistic Celebration at 4pm presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. St. Francis Xavier Parish, Saverapura, Murkoth Palke will be the 116th Parish of the Diocese.

At 3.45 pm, Bishop was given a traditionl welcome to Chapel by Parish Priest and Parsihioners. Bishop then appointed Fr. Rakesh Mathias as the first Parish Priest. Later Bishop presided over the Eucharistic Celebration which was attended by Fr. Austin Peres - Vicar Vara of Moodbidri Deanery, Fr. Ivan Rodrigues - Parish Priest of Paladka Parish, Chapel Founder Fr. Mathias Pereira and many other Priests.

After mass, Bishop blessed the foundation stone of new Presbytery to be built soon. In the stage programme, Fr. Eugene D’ Silva, Rector - Nithyadhar Nivas Alangar honoured Bishop, Chapel Founder Fr. Mathias Pereira and other Priests who served in the Chapel. Parish Priest Fr. Rakesh Mathias thanked one and all on this historical occasion. Kiran Ferandes compered the programme.
