Mangaluru, Aug 16 : With grateful hearts and joyful smiles, the bubbling enthusiastic youth ushered in their Ruby Jubilee year on 14th August, 2022. The day began with a solemn thanksgiving Holy Eucharist presided over by Rev. Dr Ronald Serrao, Rector, St Joseph's Interdiocesan Seminary, Mangalore.
The event was inaugurated with the unsealing of the Treasure Box. Rev Fr Anil Canute D Mello, Parish Priest , accorded a hospitable welcome to Rev. Dr Ronald Serrao and invited him to celebrate the Eucharistic Sacrifice. Rovin Fernandes traced the history of the existence of ICYM in the Parish and Ancita Crasta elucidated the meaning of the Logo.
Rev Dr Ronald Serrao in his very thought-provoking homily said, “God is Light and he sent His only Son Jesus into the world to ignite the Fire of Love and Faith". He gave a clarion call to the parents of the youth to listen to them without judgement, impart the right values, understand their concerns , thereby helping them to develop a sense of right and wrong and correct them gently . He further explained the Day’s Readings through citing the lives of Saints – St Francis Xavier, Mother Teresa and Devasahayam Pillai.
The Holy Mass was followed by a short programme that initiated with an Invocation followed by a literary feast served by Jelroy Vas , President ICYM, Neermarga Unit, through his Welcome Address.
The auspicious occasion was inaugurated with Wax Painting - YUVA MILAN by Rev Fr Anil D Mello, Rev. Dr Ronald Serrao, Rev Fr Stany Pinto- Campus Director & Assistant Professor at St Philomena College, Puttur, Brother Rakesh Francis, Mr. Jeffrey Lobo – First President of ICYM – Neermarga Unit, Mr. Ravi Saldanha-Vice President, Parish Pastoral Council, Mr. Prakash Pereira-Secretary, Parish Pastoral Council, Mr. Sandeep Misquith and Mr. Sunil-ICYM Animators.
Ashton D Souza on being elected the Regional Representative of Mangalore Diocese YCS 2022-23 and Rovita Lasrado as the ICYM Lady Vice President of City Deanery were felicitated.
Mr. Jeffrey Lobo in his inspiring message gave a wake up call to the youth to adopt 'learn-unlearn-relearn' methodology and to “keep abreast of latest news”.
Rev. Dr Ronald Serrao, in his refreshing message talked about opportunity and challenges and made the youth realize that there are great possibilities hidden in every situation and that small opportunities are the beginning of great enterprises.
In his moving Presidential Address, Rev Fr Anil D Mello requested the youth to prepare their hearts to be receptive to God’s Word and urged them to imbibe the virtues of Jesus Christ and adopt them as a template for everyday living.
Rev Fr Stany Pinto, The Resource Person of the Day spoke at length about the definition of Motivation, types of Motivation-Internal and External Motivation, Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation and gave the participants the tips on how to find success in life. He further made known to them the realities of life through interesting activities that left the assembled spellbound.
Derick Machado, Lydia D Souza, Aston D Souza, Ancita Crasta and Jelroy Vas through icebreakers (mixers), humorous stunts and novelty contests captured the interest of the youth and helped them to create a relaxed mood and a feeling of homeliness.
Mrs. Ruth Pinto-Coordinator of Commission for Education underscored the importance of self-employment and the skills needed to be self-employed with concrete examples.
Jeshma Saldanha efficiently compered the programme. Ashwini Saldanha and Melvita Vas proposed the Vote of Thanks.
