Kelarai - Mangaluru, Aug 29 , 2024 : On August 25th, the ICYM unit of St. Anne Church, Kelarai conducted a meaningful prison visit. Members arrived at 10:45 AM and were warmly welcomed by the Police Department.
The stage program began at 11:30 AM with a prayer song by the ICYM members, setting a reflective tone. Key dignitaries delivered insightful speeches, including Mr. B.T. Obalasehsppa, District Jail Superintendent, who emphasized the prison as a place for self-realization and growth, encouraging inmates to view their incarceration as a chance for transformation. Mr. Vasudeva Gowda G, panel advocate of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), reinforced this message, while Mr. Santhosh D'Costa, Vice President of the Kelarai Parish Pastoral Council, spoke on rehabilitation and redemption.
The ICYM members then presented a well-received cultural program. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Obalasehsppa. Following the program, female ICYM members toured the prison facilities, gaining a deeper understanding of the inmates' experiences.
This visit was a profound experience, fostering empathy and highlighting the potential for transformation within the prison system.
