Vamanjoor, July 31 : On 14th and 21st July 2024, a dedicated team of ICYM Vamanjoor Unit consisting of 23 members went on a visit to 31 houses in Vamanjoor parish where sick and aged individuals reside. The visits were conducted under the presence and the guidance of our parish priest Fr. James D’souza and the Assistant director of ICYM Vamanjoor unit Fr. Ivan Ashwin D’souza.
The individuals visited were aged between 60 to 95 years consisting of both men and women. The conditions of the individuals varied, with some being able to walk a little and the others with common illnesses such as high blood pressure (BP), bedridden conditions and joint pain. It was heartening to observe that the family members were actively involved in taking care of their sick and aged relatives by assisting them with daily activities and ensuring their wellbeing.
During these visits fruits were distributed to each and every sick individual which was generously donated to us by the people outside the community aiming to provide some nutritional benefits to the elderly residents. The active involvement of the family members in the care of the sick and aged was a positive observation. It ensures that the elderly are not left alone and receive the necessary support. The varying conditions of the individuals highlighted the need for continuous support and care, especially for those who were bedridden and required constant assistance.
In conclusion, the visit to the sick was successful in providing much-needed support and care to the sick and aged individuals of Vamanjoor Parish. The distribution of fruits and the involvement of family members were significant aspects of the visits. Continued efforts and community support are vital for the well-being of these individuals, ensuring that they live their remaining years with dignity and care.
