Mangaluru, Oct 10 : St Aloysius Institute of Education, a leading institute of teacher education of the city organised a one day Inter B. Ed College Cultural Competitions under the banner Edu Tarang 2023, to provide a platform for students of various cultural backgrounds to showcase and celebrate diverse traditions and to promote cultural awareness and appreciation among students. Heroine of the film ‘Osmitay’ and rising Konkani cine artist Ms Wencita Dias, was the Chief Guest.

The programme began with the invocation by Aloysius B. Ed Trainees followed by a welcome speech by Dr Farita Viegas, Principal of the institute.

The chief guest in her message said, “All of us are gifted with unique talents, but we have to discover our talents and work hard to harness them. Opportunities do not come seeking us, but we should find opportunities to harness our talents. Once we discover our talents and receive the right kind of training, life will be easy to continue. Hard work, patience and dedication are the components one must follow in life to achieve a goal or a dream. We are not born with skills, so we have to develop them in the area we are interested in. When you strive to develop your skills, people may laugh at you, pay no attention to it. Your unwavering self-belief and determination rather than the opinions of others determine who you become. Therefore, grab any opportunities that come your way”.

In the presidential address, Rev Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, the Director of the institute, said, “Edu Tarang 2023, an Inter-B. Ed College Cultural Competition provides a platform for all the students of B. Ed Colleges affiliated to Mangalore University, to exhibit their potential. This is an occasion to showcase creative abilities in art and culture. St Aloysius B. Ed College stands to encourage students to explore and express themselves in ways they might not have come across. This is a day where the future teachers will witness a wide range of talents from diverse backgrounds. This can promote cultural understanding and appreciation from different traditional perspectives. It also encourages the student-teachers not only to go out of their box, but develops moon shot thinking.”

Prizes to the winners were distributed in the valedictory function conducted in the evening. St Ann’s College of Education, Pandeshwar, bagged the first prize. Government College of Teacher Education, Mangalore and Prasanna College of Education, Ujire, bagged the second and the third prizes respectively.

Mrs Joshna B, convenor, introduced the Chief Guest. Mrs Sandhya, convenor, rendered the vote of thanks.
