Vamanjoor, Aug 8, 2024 : The Rovers and Rangers unit at St Raymond’s Pre University College have been actively engaged in various activities aimed at promoting leadership, community service, and personal development among students.
The Rovers and Rangers unit had organized an informative session on rainwater harvesting to educate students about sustainable water management practices. The session aimed to raise awareness about the importance of conserving water and to provide practical knowledge on how to implement rainwater harvesting systems.
The session began with an introduction to the concept of rainwater harvesting by Mr Francis Menezes who is the senior engineer at MCF. The session aimed to raise awareness about the significance of rainwater harvesting, to teach students various methods of collecting and storing rainwater.
He explained the concept of rainwater harvesting and its benefits, including reducing dependency on municipal water supply, minimizing soil erosion, and replenishing groundwater levels.
Detailed discussion on different methods of rainwater harvesting such as rooftop harvesting, surface runoff harvesting, and rainwater pits was done along with the Demonstrations on setting up simple rainwater harvesting systems using locally available materials.
College Principal Sr Anita Lydia highlighted the need to preserve water in her speech as he quoted "Water is a precious resource that is vital for all forms of life. Unfortunately, many parts of the world, including our own community, face challenges related to water scarcity”.
Mrs Carmel Nazareth, lecturer in English introduced the distinguished resource person. Mr Hemanth, lecturer in Kannada welcomed the gathering. The session was compered by Ms Vaishnavi.
