Mangaluru, Oct 1, 2024 : Senior most Brother Pioneer in Goa, Mangalore and Mysore Monasteries, Brother Gregory Menezes of the Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka Goa Province passed away on 29 September. He will be laid to rest on 1st October at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore. He was 95 years old. He was known for his humble, simple and saintly life.
Brother Gregory Menezes hailing from Kulshekar, Mangalore was well known as "Giga Brother." After his formation, he served in Goa, Mysore and Mangalore. He was one of the pioneers of the Karnataka Goa Province of the Discalced Carmelites. He was well known for his green hand in shaping the vast farm lands surrounding the monasteries. His simple living and dedicated service are noteworthy. He was much loved by the Carmeite Fathers and Brothers of the Karnataka Goa Province. He was a man of wisdom and rich experience. Having served in the Belgian community in Goa he saw the shaping of the Karnataka Goa Province.
His last days were spent at the Infant Jesus Shrine. He never complained of his pain and suffering. He lived a saintly life of prayer and austerity. He breathed his last on the feast of Archangels on 29th September. He will be laid to rest today, on the feast of St Therese of Lisieux. May his soul rest in peace.
