Vittla, June 27 : The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Vittla Unit, along with the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh ®, Vittla Unit, the Environment Commission, and the Youth Commission, celebrated Vanamahotsava on June 23, 2024, right after the first morning mass.
Mr.Manohar Lancy D'Souza, the MC of the program welcomed the gathering. The event was graced by the presence of the Parish Priest and Director of ICYM Vittla Unit. Fr. Ivan Michael Rodrigues, Catholic Sabha President Mrs.Jecintha Fernandes, Secretary Mr. Thomas Mascarenhas, Parish Vice President Mr. Vijay Pais, Commission Coordinator Mr. Louis Mascarenhas, Youth Welfare Committee Member Mr. Edwin Rodrigues, Nuns; Vittla Deanery President Prithesh Lobo,Vittla Unit President Wilson D'Souza and Secretary Renisha Rodrigues. Parishioners and youth were also present in large numbers, showing their support and enthusiasm.
The Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ivan Michael Rodrigues delivered a presidential speech highlighting the importance of planting trees. He emphasized that trees are vital for ecological balance, air quality, and combating climate change. He encouraged everyone to participate in tree-planting to ensure a greener and healthier planet for future generations.
Three saplings were symbolically planted in front of the church. Following this, around 30 saplings were planted on the property of Norbert Rebello of St. Joseph Ward, adding significance to the event. The collective effort not only beautified the area but also demonstrated a commitment to environmental care. Such initiatives inspire the community to take proactive steps towards a greener future. The program was a resounding success, bringing together parishioners in a shared mission of care and sustainability.
