Kinnigoli, Nov 9 : ICYM unit of Immaculate Conception Church, Kinnigoli organised "UDKANA 2023" - an inter ward games competition for the parishioners. The event was held on 05th November 2023 at Church grounds.
At 1:30 PM, UDKANA began along with dignitaries on the dais, Fr. Faustine Lobo - Director ICYM Kinnigoli Unit, Fr. Vivek Deepak Pinto - Asst. Director, Fr. Lancy Saldanha - Principal St. Mary's Central school Kinnigoli, William Dsouza - Vice president of Parish Council, Sr. Premalatha - head of Bethany Convent Kinnigoli, Mithesh Dsouza - President, ICYM Central Council, Vincent Mathias – Youth Commission Representative, Fr. Walter Mendonca SVD, Fr. Praveen Aranha SVD, Fr. George Crasta SVD, Colin Dsouza – Amcho Yuvak Editor ICYM Central Council, Rohan Selvaraj Fernandes - President and Sarah Mathias - Secretary.
Rohan Fernandes led the stage program by welcoming all the gatherings which continued with the inauguration. Fr. Faustine Lobo along with Fr. Walter Mendonca delivered a few words commemorating that day and words of encouragement and support.
A total of around 500 parishioners were present for the event. Right after the stage program a march past was presented by the wards of the parish. Fr. Walter Mendonca SVD and Fr. George Crasta were the judges for the march past. Later, Fr. Faustine Lobo and other dignitaries congratulated all the members who participated in the march past and wished very good luck to all.
Further on, all the ICYM volunteers conducted various kinds of games for different categories such as 1st - 4th, 5th - 7th, 8th - 12th, ladies, gents, and games for the couples. Around 150 participants were there for each game and above 25 couples for couple events, which showed the interest of the ward members. The games were - a coin in the flour, sack race, filling water in cup, passing the ball etc., where everyone from children to grownups participated very enthusiastically and gave their best.
At 5:30 PM, the ward games started with Tug of war. Although all games were great, ward games stole the spotlight. First off, in Tug of war, in which all the wards of the parish took part, ICYM members surrounded the players by making a human chain, so that any inconvenience wouldn’t be caused to the players, the players included both men and women. Next 'Modki Futovnchi', breaking the pot, everyone contributed to the fullest and had a lot of fun. The treasure hunt was also organized.
All the ward games were the centre of attraction, in which all the wards pitched in and gave their best, vast crowd supporting the players as the ICYM members efficiently volunteered throughout the program.
A stall was also installed by the ICYM Unit. There were a total of 40 ICYM members who gave their best for the success of the event.
Fatima ward secured first place, followed by Michael ward - first runners up and Pompei ward - second runners up. Participants who secured first, second and third place were honoured with medals and certificates. Trophies were awarded to the overall winners and runners-up holders.
It was indeed a fabulous and memorable day for all. Everyone had a great time and it was a great opportunity for the parishioners to exhibit their team spirit and talent. The ICYM unit received positive feedback and wishes from all.
