Puttur, Oct 7 : The Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department of South Canara, South Canara Physical Directors Association, South Canara District Sports Association, and Mangalore City Corporation jointly organized a diverse array of sports events at the District Ground in Mangalore during the Mysore Divisional Dussehra Sports Meet 2023 recently. These events encompassed athletics, weightlifting, basketball, handball, boxing, wrestling, vooshu, tenquado, netball, ball badminton, and throwball.
In this prestigious competition, students from St. Philomena College showcased their exceptional talent in the weightlifting category, leaving an indelible mark. Their remarkable achievements included 6 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medals. Notable performances in different weight categories include:
55 kg: Sujan K secured a silver medal.
61 kg: Munaf secured the gold.
73 kg: Bhuvan Ram clinched the gold.
81 kg: Shabarish B. Rai earned a gold.
89 kg: Abhi Ramachandra Adigundi excelled with a gold.
109 kg: Annson Mascareness achieved silver.
109+ kg: Ranjith Kumar exhibited extraordinary strength.
45 kg:Ms Beula P T secured a Gold medal.
71 kg: Ms Spandana achieved Gold.
In addition to their superb weightlifting achievements, the athletes of the college also excelled in other sports.
The athletes were honoured in the College Assembly.
This remarkable success was attributed to the dedicated training provided by Mr Pushparaj, the weightlifting coach of the college. Mr Elias Pinto, Physical Education Director, expressed his pride in the students’ accomplishments and lauded the guidance of the coach in preparing them for such a prestigious competition. As Athletes of St Philomena college have made their mark at the Mysore Divisional Dussehra Sports Meet 2023, Correspondent ,Principal and Campus Director have expressed the elation.
