Mangaluru, Jan 23, 2025 : Carmel School, Mangaluru, hosted the "Cyber Sainik Programme" from January 20th to 22nd, a three-day workshop aimed at raising cyber security awareness among students. The event, organized in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and Kyndryl, focused on educating students in grades 6 to 9 about safe and responsible online behaviour.

The programme commenced with a Prayer Service by grade 9 students, followed by a welcome address from Mrs. Akshatha, who introduced the guest speakers: Chirag Suvarna, Senior Cyber Security Analyst, and Mrs. Vedika, Project Coordinator at DSCI. Ceremonial lamp lighting, led by Rev. Sr. Lilly Pushpa, the principal, along with Rev. Sr. Premal, the vice-principal, and the guest speakers, marked the beginning of the event. The students were introduced to key topics related to cyber security, including cybercrime, internet safety, social media usage, and the importance of safeguarding personal information online.

Throughout the sessions, students explored various issues such as cyberbullying, harassment, identity theft, and the behaviour of cyber predators. They learned how to protect their passwords, avoid cyber stalking, and recognize the tactics used in social engineering. The workshop emphasized responsible online behaviours and encouraged participants to be vigilant in safeguarding their digital presence. The students then pledged to avoid cyberbullying, respect privacy, and contribute to creating a safer online community.

The workshop also included an exciting poster-making competition, where students showcased their creativity by illustrating various cyber security themes. Several students were recognized for their outstanding artwork and awarded cash prizes. The winners were Krithi N R (Grade 8), Athuf (Grade 7), Sanika KV (Grade 7), Vindya (Grade 8), Kenith (Grade 8), Fathima Nasooha (Grade 9), Prarthana Gowri P (Grade 9), and Lavish Kumar K (Grade 9). Sr. Premal A.C. distributed the prizes to the deserving. Additionally, Nithasha (Grade 8), Sheryl (Grade 7), and Rachith (Grade 6) shared their personal experiences from the workshop.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Alifya Murtaza Miyajeewala (Grade 9) who expressed her gratitude to the guest speakers, staff, and students for their active involvement. The programme marked a significant effort in educating students on digital safety, empowering them with the knowledge and tools to navigate the online world securely.
