Mangaluru, Nov 28 : On November 24, 2024, St. Agnes School CBSE organized the ENERGIA Parents' Day Sports Meet at the St. Agnes PU Grounds, an event brimming with excitement and camaraderie. This grand occasion, held as part of the school’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, brought parents, teachers, and students together in a joyful celebration of athleticism and community spirit. The event highlighted the significance of Parents' Sports Day, emphasizing the importance of fitness, participation, and friendly competition among parents.
The inaugural event began with the gracious reception of distinguished guests Sr. Dr. Lydia Fernandes A.C, former Principal of St. Ann’s B.Ed. College and General Councillor for Education, who served as the President of the day’s celebrations; the Chief Guest Sr.Dr. Maria Roopa A.C, Joint Secretary of St. Agnes Institutions; and Mr. Liston Derric Dsouza, PTA Vice President. The dignitaries were warmly welcomed with a grand Guard of Honour, accompanied by the rhythmic melodies of the school band. They were then graciously escorted to the venue by Principal Sr. Maria Sarika A.C, Vice Principal Sr. Meena Fernandes A.C, and Sr. Reshma Dsouza A.C., exemplifying the school’s tradition of respect and hospitality. Each referee was greeted with a rose as a token of respect and appreciation. Additionally, they were presented with sports attire, symbolizing our gratitude for their contribution to ensuring the success of our sports event.
The opening ceremony was filled with energy and grace. A soulful chorus, led by the students, invoked divine blessings, followed by a captivating welcome dance that epitomized unity and joy through the universal language of music. Sr. Maria Sarika AC, with vivacity and warmth, extended a heartfelt welcome to all attendees.
The event was officially launched with the dignitaries releasing a cluster of balloons into the sky, symbolizing the spirit of freedom, energy, and excitement, and marking the commencement of the day’s athletic competitions. In her address, Sr. Dr. Lydia Fernandes uplifted the audience with motivational words, praising the parents for their enthusiastic involvement. She also lauded the school for organizing such a significant event, highlighting its importance in strengthening the bond between parents and school, while promoting a sense of unity and teamwork. The opening ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Teacher Josephine.
The day’s events showcased a diverse range of individual, group, and couple games, categorized into three age groups: men and women below 40, 41-50, and above 50. The action-packed lineup included the 100-meter race, 100-meter walk race, tug-of-war, shot put, treasure hunt, long jump, hoops race, and the thrilling "Bombing the City" game. The exciting couple’s game added a special touch, ensuring a fun-filled experience for all participants.
As the day neared its conclusion, the much-awaited valedictory programme began with the arrival of the esteemed chief guests—Mr. Naveen Dsouza, Corporator, Bendore ward, Mangalore Corporation and Mr Herbert Mario Pereira, Executive at KMC Hospital Attavar,. They were escorted by Sr Maria Sarika A.C., Sr. Meena Fernandes A.C., Mr Liston Derric Dsouza and Sr. Reshma Dsouza.
After receiving a warm welcome, Mr. Dsouza, too, expressed his admiration for the school’s initiative in hosting an event that specifically engaged parents in a meaningful way. He applauded the school’s efforts to strengthen the bond between parents and students through sports, highlighting the importance of such events in fostering teamwork, cooperation, and a sense of unity. Both gentlemen delivered inspiring speeches, which resonated deeply with the audience, motivating everyone to embrace the spirit of healthy competition and collaboration. Mr. Herbert Pereira took the opportunity to congratulate the winners, commending their sportsmanship and dedication. He also praised the school for organizing such a well-executed event, which brought together parents, students, and staff in a celebration of athleticism and community spirit. The day came to a fitting close with the prize distribution ceremony, where the parents' dedication, effort, and sportsmanship were celebrated. The referees were also honoured with tokens of appreciation as a humble gesture for their invaluable service. Teacher Daphne expertly compered the program, while Sr. Meena Fernandes extended a warm welcome to all attendees, and Teacher Janet delivered the vote of thanks.
