Puttur, Nov 14, 2024 : The 57th National Library Week celebrations were officially inaugurated at St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur Central Library on November 14.
The event was launched by the College Principal, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, with the opening of a 10-day ‘Book Exhibition’ in the Central Library. “Books and reading are indispensable parts of life. Students should cultivate the habit of reading books available in the library to expand their knowledge. In this age of technology, rather than spending time on mobile games, students should make good books their lifelong companions,” said Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of St Philomena Autonomous College.
The exhibition, held as part of National Library Week observed from November 14 to November 20, will continue at the college library until November 23. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Monteiro highlighted that the library is a treasure trove of books that enhance the values of life. He noted the decline in students’ reading habits and emphasized the initiative of the college to promote reading and writing among students. As part of this initiative, the college has declared November as “Library Month,” during which various activities, including a book review competition, are being organized. A 10-day book exhibition showcasing over 500 books across categories such as arts, literature, personality development, competitive exams, and autobiographies of renowned authors has also been arranged. The exhibition offers an opportunity for students to explore diverse genres and learn from books that can enrich their knowledge and personal growth.
