Puttur, 25 September 2024 : “Service is life,” remarked Dr Radhakrishna Gowda, as he addressed a gathering at the inauguration of the National Service Scheme (NSS) annual activities and NSS Day celebrations at St Philomena Autonomous College, Puttur. Dr Gowda, the resource person for the event, emphasized the profound impact of the NSS in shaping lives, noting that while life is defined in many ways, NSS volunteers see it through the lens of service to others.
The event, held in the Silver Jubilee Hall, was presided over by Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, Correspondent of Mai De Deus Educational Institutions. In his address, Fr Mascarenhas encouraged the audience to cultivate a heart that responds to the suffering of others. “Helping others in their hardships is service,” he stated, urging everyone to live like a fruit-bearing tree that nourishes others, reflecting the selfless spirit of the NSS.
The program was formally inaugurated by the principal, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, who inspired the volunteers to find beauty in service, stressing that true fulfillment in life comes from giving and serving others.
NSS officer Dr Chandrashekar K., presented introductory remarks and extended warm welcome. Another programme officer Mrs Pushpa N. proposed a vote of thanks. The event was compered by Uma Alva, a third-year BCA student. NSS unit leaders, Niranjan, NSS secretary, Kevin Almeida, Archana K,Kavya H Rao were present on the stage. Vice Principal Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar and PRO, Bharathi S Rai along with other members of the staff were present on the occasion.
The celebrations concluded with a vibrant cultural performance by the students.
