Puttur, 23 September 2024 : Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) and the Department of Computer Science, organized a one-day session on “Problem Solving and Ideation” to encourage creativity and innovation among students at the PG Seminar Hall of St Philomena College.

The event was presided over by the Principal, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, who emphasized the importance of critical thinking and innovation in today’s fast-paced world. “In this competitive era, the ability to solve problems creatively is among the most valuable skills. By conducting thorough and radical research, students can develop their own solutions and achieve success,” he remarked, encouraging students to embrace innovative thinking across all fields.

The session featured two renowned resource persons: Madhuranath R, Managing Director of Surprise and ArkatvamStartups, Bangalore, and Sachin NR, an Angel Investor and IT Consultant for seventeen start-ups.

Madhuranath captivated the students with his practical demonstrations on ideation and idea generation, drawing from real-world examples. He discussed the unique challenges faced by rural students and the potential solutions for the agricultural problems in the region. In addition, he reviewed and guided the student-presented ideas, offering insights into online platforms and mobile applications that could foster innovation.

Sachin S.R. provided a detailed explanation of the technical obstacles to watch out for when bringing new products to market, including navigating the licensing requirements from government bodies and other regulatory organizations.

The program began with a warm welcome by Geetapoornima K, coordinator of the IIC unit. Dean and Head of the Department of Computer Science, Vinayachandra, shared an overview of the upcoming Incubation Center, outlining the opportunities it would offer students. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Abhishek Suvarna, Coordinator of the IIC Unit, while Tanuja NP, IIC unit member compered the program.
