Puttur, September 12, 2024 : St. Philomena College recently witnessed an engaging week of Freshers’ Day celebrations, as all five streams—BCA(ALOHA), BBA(LAUNCHPAD), B. Com(ESPERANZA), BA(NAVARAMBH) and BSc(AAGAAZ) organized programs to welcome the first-year students. Held at different intervals throughout the week, the programs aimed to introduce the freshers to the culture of the college and academic environment while emphasizing a balanced approach to education.

Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, presided over the Freshers’ Day program for all the streams. In his address, he stressed the importance of balancing academics with extracurricular activities, saying, “Students should focus not only on academic subjects but also on extracurricular aspects. Equal importance should be given to both, and they should engage in education using their full potential. In the future, there will be many who will criticize us, but we should not shrink from their negative statements. Instead, turn them into challenges and succeed in life.”

Vice-Principal Dr Vijayakumar Moleyar, who participated as the chief guest, motivated the freshers by advising them to make the most of their student life. “Make proper use of the little opportunity you get in student life and engage in achievement right from the first year. Make the most of the time you have and make your name remain in the college forever. Keep your originality and remember that nothing is possible without knowing that it is impossible,” he remarked.

Highlighting student achievements, Abhiram Binu of the BCA (AI & ML) department, who secured first place in the entrance-level competency examination organized by the Department of Computer Science, and Madhura Rai S., a student who completed over 25 online certificate courses, were felicitated during the program. Anagha Rai of II BBA was felicitated for her achievement in clearing the CSEET(All India Level exam conducted by ICSI). Pooja of III BA also was felicitated for securing 100 out of 100 marks in Economics (Third semester, Mangalore University Examinations 2023-24).

Each department designed its event to not only welcome the newcomers but also to inspire them to excel academically and participate actively in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. In every department event cultural programme and fun games followed the formal programme.
