Mangaluru, Sep 9 : St Agnes School (CBSE), Bendore, Mangalore, celebrated International Girl Child Day and International Literacy Day with spirited enthusiasm on September 6th, 2024, in the school hall. The event sought to raise awareness of the importance of girls' rights, gender equality, and the transformative impact of literacy.
The program commenced with a solemn prayer service, seeking divine blessings, followed by an energetic prayer dance. Shannon Saldanha graciously welcomed the gathering and introduced the esteemed chief guest, Sr Reshma D’souza A.C. , Faculty St Agnes School ( CBSE). A lively welcome dance further energized the audience, setting the tone for the celebration.
A captivating “Nukkad Natak” (street play) performed by Grade 3 students highlighted the profound idea that literacy extends beyond reading and writing—it's the key to unlocking vast realms of knowledge. A poignant dance advocating for the protection of the girl child, along with a skit emphasizing the vital importance of educating girls, were standout performances of the day.
Sr Reshma D’souza commended students and teachers for their extraordinary efforts and expressed deep admiration for the programme. In her address, she emphasized the transformative power of education, reminding students that they hold the potential to shape a brighter future. She encouraged them to embrace lifelong learning and to nurture their inner strength. Sr Reshma also underscored the importance of equality, kindness, and teamwork, urging everyone to work collectively towards a world where all individuals, especially girls, are empowered through education.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dhyuthi, recognizing Principal Sr Maria Sarika A.C.’s pivotal role in fostering a culture of encouragement and inspiration among the students. The event was eloquently compered by Cleona Dsouza and Sanvi S. Shettigar.
