Mangaluru, Oct 8 : St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, Department of Zoology celebrated the National Wildlife Week from 2nd October to 7th October 2023 by organizing a number of activities that created a buzz in the college campus.
National Wildlife Week is held from October 2 to October 8 every year to spread the message of protecting and preserving India's flora and fauna.
The activities planned for Wildlife Week at St Agnes College were designed to promote inclusive and collective participation in the cause of wildlife conservation.
Department of Zoology celebrated the National Wildlife Week by conducting various competitions which include:
2nd October 2023- Caption the photograph Competition
3rd October 2023-Digital Poster making competition
4th October 2023-Mobile photography Competition
5th October 2023-Leaf Art Competition
6th October 2023-Rangoli Competition
7th October 2023-Guest Lecture
2nd October 2023- Caption the photograph Competition
Caption the photograph competition was an online event where the students had to give a catchy caption to the photograph uploaded in the google form.
A wide variety of catchy captions were given by the students. This ignited creative thinking among the students.
3rd October 2023-Digital Poster making competition
A digital poster making competition was organised on the theme “Nature” in view of ‘World Nature Day’. The students had to submit creatively designed posters on the theme. The students designed the beautiful posters relevant to the theme.
4th October 2023-Mobile photography Competition
Mobile photography competition was organised on the theme “Animals and Birds around me” in view of ‘World Animal Welfare Day’. The students submitted beautiful and mesmerizing photographs of the animals and birds present in their surroundings.
5th October 2023-Leaf Art Competition
The Leaf Art Competition was organised on the theme “Living Organisms”. The students came up with beautiful art which was canvased on the leaves. The leaves were given a different makeover which represented a wide variety of living organisms. This imbibed a creative spark among the students.
6th October 2023-Rangoli Competition
Rangoli Competition was organized on the theme “Wildlife”. The Rangolis were beautifully done by the students. The students brought the wild animals and birds to life through their masterpiece. It was indeed a treat to the eyes of the spectators.
7th October 2023-Guest lecture and Closure of National Wildlife Week
Guest Lecture on the topic “Deforestation and its impact on bird migration” was organized by the Department of Zoology in association with Nature Club and was organized for the members of Nature club. Mr Reginald Valdar, Birding Enthusiast, was the guest speaker. He spoke about deforestation being the greatest threat to the bird habitat and how anthropological activities have stripped them off their habitats and led to the migration of birds.
90 students participated enthusiastically in the session. The session was very informative and the students gained knowledge on various aspects of environmental conversation.
After the session the valedictory ceremony of the National Wildlife Week was conducted by the Department of Zoology.
The prize winners of the various competitions held throughout the wildlife week were awarded by the Resource person.
