March 25 marks the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, which also coincides with the International Day of the Unborn Child. Established in Argentina, with Pope Saint John Paul II playing a major role in its establishment, this day is dedicated to commemorating all unborn children and advocating against abortion violence. It also marks the anniversary of Evangelium Vitae, the 1995 encyclical in which Pope John Paul II emphasized human dignity and defended the right to life. Father Thomas Petri, President of the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies, shares insight on the connection between the Annunciation and the International Day of the Unborn Child, ways to observe it, and the lasting impact of Evangelium Vitae.
