Puttur 28 March 2025: St Philomena College, Puttur, in association with its Institutions Innovation Council (IIC) and the Department of Computer Science, organized a thought-provoking lecture on the theme “Role of Women in Innovation” at the Spandana Seminar Hall of the college.
The resource person for the session was Sister Lourde Mary, Warden of St Philomena Women’s Hostel, who delivered an inspiring talk highlighting the pivotal contributions of women in science and innovation. Referencing icons such as Marie Curie and Augusta Ada Lovelace, she illustrated how women have led revolutionary changes in the scientific world. “We often draw inspiration from others without realizing the immense inner strength within ourselves,” she said, stressing the importance of self-belief and awareness of one’s potential for achieving success in any field.
Sister Lourde Mary also spoke at length about the growing opportunities for women in the entrepreneurial sector, while also addressing the unique challenges they face.
Presiding over the event, the Principal of the college, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, emphasized the transformative role of women in shaping society, advancing innovation, and leading in fields like education, leadership, and entrepreneurship. “The notion that men suppress women is a myth. In reality, men have always been supporters of women’s progress,” he stated. He further asserted the vital role men play in empowering women and reiterated the unwavering commitment of the college to foster women’s leadership, creativity, and research. “The college consistently promotes equality and innovation,” he added, lauding the organizers for their initiative.
