As the world prays for the health and recovery of the Holy Father, important work continues at the Vatican. The Vatican has taken a significant step toward recognizing Fr. Emil Kapaun and six others. Fr. Kapaun, who served as a chaplain in both World War II and the Korean War, and Italian layman Salvo D’Acquisto, are being honored for their “Offering of Life,” a designation introduced by Pope Francis in 2017. This recognition means that Fr. Kapaun will be declared Venerable, a key step toward sainthood. Pope Francis also recognizes Michele Maura Montaner, Didaco Bessi, and Cunegonda Siwiec for their heroic virtues and has approved votes for the canonization of Blessed Giuseppe Gregorio Hernández Cisneros and Blessed Bartolo Longo.
