Udupi, Aug 26 : St. Cecily’s English Medium Higher Primary School transformed into a hub of athletic energy on Saturday, August 24, 2024, as it hosted the AICS Throw ball Tournament. The event was graced by Miss Shamita Poojary, an international throw ball gold medalist, as the chief guest, and Sr. Preethi CrastaA. C. Joint secretary of the school as President of the occasion.

Sr. Lathika AC, the Principal, escorted the dignitaries to the school hall, accompanied by an electrifying school band. A melodious prayer, invoked the Divine blessings and was followed by the vibrant welcome dance, setting the tone for the day. The Principal then welcomed the gathering. The chief guest, Ms. Shamita, inaugurated the event symbolically, opening an explosion box.

In her address, Ms. Shamita extended her heartfelt wishes to the young athletes from various schools, inspiring them to strive for their best. Tr. Jyothi provided essential guidelines to the participants and their team managers, ensuring a smooth and fair tournament.

A total of 21 schools from the Udupi region participated, with a remarkable 744 participants and 33 officials. The excitement reached a crescendo as the entire crowd made their way to the throw ball tournament grounds. Miss Shamita, the chief guest, added a touch of excitement by personally participating in the inaugural throw ball match.

The day was filled with thrilling matches that continued well into the evening. The most anticipated moment of the day, the announcement of results, drew the crowd back to the school hall for the Valedictory programme. Presiding over the ceremony was Mrs. Shamil Quadros, the Vice President of the PTA. The event was further graced by the presence of Mr. Vincent D’Costa, Principal of Sharada Residential School and Secretary of AICS, and Dr. Sahana Hegde, Principal of Vidyavardhaka English Medium School, Shirva.

A soothing prayer song graced the atmosphere drawing down God’s blessings. Tr. Jennifer expressed a warm welcome to the evening audience, setting the stage for the prize distribution ceremony. The winners of the U-14 and U-17 categories, both boys and girls, were awarded for their outstanding performances.

The event was expertly anchored by teachers Vidya and Nisha. Tr. Benita proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the tournament. Mrs. Nirmala and Ms. Shalini Shetty served as the vibrant announcers during the conduct of the match. The tournament concluded on a triumphant note, leaving a lasting impression on all participants and spectators. The event showcased the true spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and dedication among the young athletes who braved the rains and played with grit till the end.
