Mangaluru, Feb 26, 2025 : On Sunday, February 23, the Annual Catechism Day was celebrated with deep meaning and devotion at St. Lawrence Church & Shrine, Bondel. Rev. Fr Ivan Peter Cordeiro, Assistant Manager of Codialbail Press, presided over the Eucharistic celebration at 8:30 a.m. The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza Parish Priest & Rev. Fr William D'Souza, Assistant Parish Priest and Director for Sunday Catechism, The parish children led the liturgy, while the children's choir enriched the ceremony with its solemn and uplifting melodies.

Rev. Fr Ivan Peter Cordeiro, in his homily, highlighted the vital role of Catechism in nurturing children's faith, guiding them in their spiritual journey, and deepening their relationship with God. He emphasized that our ancestors have passed down the treasure of faith, and it is our responsibility to do the same for future generations. Catechism is the teaching of Jesus and His commandments, not merely an option but a duty for all believers. By embracing Catechism, we grow in our understanding of Jesus and strengthen our commitment to His teachings.

The second part of the event was held in the St. Lawrence English Medium School auditorium. It began with a heartfelt prayer song by the children. The dignitaries on the dais were welcomed with a rose, symbolizing a warm gesture of appreciation.

The program was beautifully hosted by Grade 9 students. Jovial D'Souza warmly welcomed the dignitaries and guests attending the event. Lawrence D'Souza & Vinola Braggs, Grade 10 student, shared their personal experiences and insights on his Catechism learning journey. Mrs. Elizabeth Pinto the Secretary for Sunday Catechism, presented a brief annual report on the Sunday Catechism classes, highlighting key activities and achievements.

Rev. Fr Ivan Cordeiro, Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza, Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves Principal St Lawrence Eng. Med. School, Rev. Fr. William D'Souza Asst. Parish Priest , Mr. John D'Silva (Vice President of the Parish Council), Mr. Santhosh Misquith (Secretary of the Parish Council), Mrs. Lavina Menezes (Catechism Coordinator), Mrs. Elizabeth Pinto (Secretary), Br. Balaswamy, and Mrs. Lavina Cutinha (Secretary of the Bible & Catechism Commission) were present on the dais.

Rev. Fr Ivan Peter Cordeiro, Assistant Manager of Codialbail Press and the Chief Guest, encouraged parents and the gathering, highlighting that Catechism nurtures faith, fosters talent, and strengthens values. He emphasized the importance of raising children with strong moral foundations and commended teachers for their dedication in imparting faith and values.

Rev. Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza, the Parish Priest expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of Catechism Day and Sunday classes. He specially appreciated Rev. Fr William D'Souza, Mrs. Lavina Menezes, Mrs. Elizabeth Pinto , and the dedicated teachers for their commitment and service.

Rev. Fr Peter Gonsalves, Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium School, highlighted that Catechism classes help children grow in faith and build a strong foundation of values. He urged parents to actively nurture their children's faith and ensure their regular participation in classes.

Rev. Fr William D'Souza, Director of Sunday Catechism, stated that Sunday Catechism strengthens faith and helps nurture children into better Christians. He expressed gratitude to all the teachers for their dedicated service.

On the occasion of Catechism Day, students from Grades 1 to 8 showcased a variety of engaging performances, including a captivating Bible skit and group dances that conveyed meaningful, faith-based messages through creative storytelling and spiritual dramatizations.

Students who showed dedication by attending daily Mass, Sunday Catechism classes regularly, and excelling in exams and projects were recognized and awarded for their commitment and hard work. The prizes were distributed by the dignitaries on the dais. Teachers and volunteers were honored with a gift by Rev. Fr William D'Souza in recognition of their dedicated service.

A large number of parents, teachers, and children gathered to witness and celebrate this special occasion. Towards the end of the program, Denith Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone involved. Rev. Fr. William D'Souza led the grace before the meal. The event concluded with a joyful gathering, where lunch and ice cream were served to all children and parents.
