Vamanjoor, Feb 23 : On February 23, 2025, St Joseph the Worker Church in Vamanjoor, Mangalore, became the focal point of a deeply significant celebration: the Twin Jubilee of Servant of God Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas. This momentous occasion marked the 150th anniversary of his birth and the 125th anniversary of his priestly ordination, a testament to his enduring impact on the community.
The day commenced with a solemn Eucharistic celebration at 7.30 am, with Rev Fr James D'Souza as the main celebrant, and Fr Ashwin Ivan DSouza concelebrating. Sr Lavita Moras BS provided a moving introduction, highlighting the remarkable qualities of SD RFC Mascarenhas: his profound dedication to prayer, his unwavering devotion to the Blessed Eucharist and Blessed Sacrament, his deep love for Mary, his fervent missionary zeal, and his compassionate heart for the poor and marginalized.
In his sermon, Rev Fr James D'Souza, the Parish Priest, emphasized that the Twin Jubilee served as a powerful testament to the enduring legacy of Servant of God Raymond FC Mascarenhas. He spoke of Mascarenhas's profound impact, and how this celebration served as a fitting tribute to his invaluable contributions. He also noted that the congregation continues to thrive, carrying forward his vision of service and dedication.
Fr James further elaborated on Mascarenhas's life, describing him as a man of deep prayer, renowned for his dedicated service as a priest of the Mangalore Diocese. He was a visionary with a profound love for mission, dedicating his life to preaching the Good News to the poor. His compassionate nature, loving and caring demeanor, and rich spirituality were evident to all. He spent countless hours in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, and his powerful sermons, such as the one delivered during the first Eucharistic procession of Mangalore in 1938, drew many towards the Eucharistic Lord.
Notably, Mascarenhas is remembered for founding the Bethany Congregation in Bendur, Mangalore, in 1921, an organization that continues to bring the light of Christ to countless individuals worldwide. Fr James also expressed gratitude for the services of the Bethany Sisters in the Vamanjoor Parish.
The Mass provided a sacred space for the community to unite in prayer and thanksgiving, honoring the memory of this extraordinary Man SD RFC Mascarenhas. Attendees reflected on his life, teachings, and lasting influence. The presence of Rev Fr James D'Souza, Fr Ashwin Ivan DSouza, the Sisters of St Raymond Convent, Bethany Provincialate Vamanjoor, Bethany Lay Associates and SRA Sisters further enriched the celebration. The parishioners of St Joseph the Worker Church, along with the wider Bethany Congregation and well-wishers, joined in celebrating the life and legacy of Servant of God Raymond FC Mascarenhas. The liturgy, beautifully conducted by the Sisters of St Raymond Convent, added a special layer of significance to the service.
