Mangaluru, Nov 25 : The Choir Day and Feast of St. Cecilia were celebrated with great fervour and joy at St. Sebastian Church, Bendur, on November 22, 2024. The event honoured the patron saint of music, St. Cecilia, and recognized the invaluable contributions of the parish choir members.
The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Mass and Adoration at 5:00 PM, held in the church. The Mass was presided over by the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Flavian Lobo, Professor at Jeppu Seminary, with Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza, the parish Vicar, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Cutinha, Rev. Fr. Denzil Lobo concelebrating. The spiritual ambiance was enriched by the melodious hymns rendered by the choir, setting a reverent tone for the evening.
The cultural program commenced at 6:15 PM in the Centenary Auditorium, with a prayer song beautifully performed by the Children’s Choir Group, invoking blessings and setting a spiritual and celebratory mood.
Mr. Vinod D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, extended a warm welcome to the gathering, acknowledging the efforts of the choir and their significant role in the parish’s liturgical life.
A key highlight of the evening was the felicitation of dedicated choir members for their exceptional service. Mr. Oswald D’Souza, Choir Master, for his commitment and guidance in leading the choir. Mrs. Anita Frank, English Choir Coordinator, for her dynamic leadership and enthusiasm. Mr. Galdin D’Souza, for an inspiring 42 years of service to the choir. Mrs. Jacintha Colaco, for her 18 years of faithful service.
The parishioners performed a special honoring song, composed and written by the Vicar, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the ceremony. Rev. Fr. Flavian Lobo delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the vital role of the choir in enhancing the liturgical experience. He highlighted how sacred music uplifts the soul and fosters a deeper connection with the divine. The Vicar, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza, shared a thoughtful message, thanking the choir for their dedication and encouraging them to continue their mission of spreading joy and faith through music.
The cultural highlight of the evening was Sangeetha Rasamanjari, a vibrant musical extravaganza performed by choir members. They presented a delightful medley of songs in Konkani, English, Kannada, and Hindi, showcasing their talent and versatility. The harmonious melodies captivated the audience, leaving them spellbound. Interactive games added a fun and engaging element to the program. Participants enthusiastically competed in various activities, and winners were awarded prizes, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
Mrs. Patsy Britto, Secretary of the PPC, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the clergy, choir members, organizers, and all attendees for making the celebration a grand success.
The event was seamlessly anchored by Mrs. Jyothi D’Souza, whose cheerful demeanor and smooth coordination kept the program lively and well-organized.
The program concluded with a delicious dinner served to all attendees, fostering fellowship and camaraderie among the parish community.
