Nirkan - Bantwal, Nov 11 : On Sunday, 10 November 2024, St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Nirkan observed Confraternity Sunday with great fervor and devotion. The holy Mass began at 8:00 a.m., led by Rev. Dr. Praveen Joy Saldanha, Professor at St. Joseph’s Seminary Jeppu, as the main celebrant, with Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Leo William Lobo as concelebrant.
Following the Mass, a solemn procession was held with the Eucharistic sacrament, winding its way through the church locality, from the church to Kadabettu Cross and back through the main entrance. During the procession, hymns were sung in Kannada, Konkani, and Tulu to praise the sacrament.
People from other religious communities in the Nirkan-Vogga locality distributed drinking water to those in need. This act beautifully exemplified the true spirit of brotherhood, especially on a day dedicated to celebrating such unity.
In his inspiring homily, Rev. Dr. Praveen Joy Saldanha emphasized the importance of brotherhood, urging the faithful to be helpful and supportive of one another. He reminded the congregation that, at the time of death, it is not wealth or material possessions that are remembered, but rather the good deeds and kindness shown to one’s neighbors.
The celebration continued with adoration, during which choir members led the congregation in praising the sacrament through hymns, creating an atmosphere of reverence and devotion.
The Confraternity Sunday celebration served as a strong reminder of the importance of community, compassion, and service to others.
