Mangaluru, Sep 2 : On August 25, 2024, the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), St. Joseph Vaz Mangalore South Deanery, organized a one-day youth gathering, "YOUNITE 2024," for the youth of the Mangalore South Deanery at Our Lady of Mercy Church Hall, Fajir.

The program commenced with a solemn prayer led by the members of the ICYM Fajir Unit. ICYM Mangalore South Deanery President Mr. Flinton Cutinha welcomed the gathering and extended a warm reception to all attendees. Mr. Deepak Rodrigues served as the host for the day, guiding the event with enthusiasm and grace. Guest Speaker Mrs. Rikitha Pais delivered an engaging talk on grooming, focusing on the importance of personal presentation and professional demeanour. Her insights provided valuable tips for the youth on enhancing their self-confidence and career prospects.

Following this, Adoration was conducted by Mangalore South Deanery Director Rev. Fr. Jayaprakash Dsouza, who offered spiritual reflection and guidance. The Vicar Vara of the South Deanery, Rev. Fr. Cyprian Pinto, then delivered his message and blessed the food. Lunch was served, after which Dr. Mona Mendonca led a session on problem-solving skills. She addressed the challenges faced by contemporary youth and discussed various societal issues impacting their lives.

The event continued with an engaging session of games and activities led by Ms. Veena Vaz, which encouraged teamwork and mutual support among the participants. A lucky draw was also conducted based on the registration forms filled out by attendees, with the winner announced as Jovita Mascarenhas from the Fajir Unit.

The Parish Priest of Fajir Church, Rev. Fr. Joseph Mascarenhas, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Valerian D'Souza, and Secretary Preetham Noronha also attended the event. The gathering was further distinguished by the presence of several notable figures, including Winston Joel Sequeira, President of Mangalore Diocese; Avith Premson Lobo, Red Drop Representative and Deanery Representative; Jaison Dsouza, Regional Representative; and other members of the Central Diocese Executive Committee and Council. Their participation underscored the significance of YOUNITE 2024 and highlighted the broad support and involvement of the ICYM community.

A total of 125 youth attended the event. At the end of the program, Mangalore South Deanery Secretary Ms. Melisha Dsouza expressed gratitude to all participants, speakers, and volunteers, acknowledging their contributions to the success of YOUNITE 2024. The day concluded with the singing of the ICYM Theme song, bringing the event to a unifying end, followed by Baila played by DJ Jeevan.
