Belthangady, Aug 7 : "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
ICYM Belthangady Deanery along with ICYM Ujire unit organised "Thirang Utsav", an inter-unit cultural competition on 4th August 2024 at the Ujire Anugraha Auditorium from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The event was themed to inculcate patriotism in the youth and began with breakfast for all attendees, followed by the inaugural ceremony.
The inaugural ceremony commenced at 9:30 AM with a prayer song.
Rose Priya Pinto, Treasurer of ICYM Ujire Unit, hosted the ceremony, inviting the guests to the dais led by ICYM Ujire Unit President Laren Monis and Secretary Hency Melisha Serrao.
The dignitaries present on the dais were:
Fr. Abel Lobo – Parish Priest, St. Antony Church, Ujire; Mr. Melvin Fernandes – Ex-Serviceman, Indian Army; Fr. Praveen D'Souza – Director, ICYM Belthangady Deanery; Fr. Vijay Lobo – Principal, Anugraha School; Mr. Antony Fernandes and Mr. Ligori Vas – Vice President and secretary of Parish Council; Mr. Valerian Pinto, Mr. Nithin Monis and Mrs. Anitha Monis – Animators, ICYM Ujire Unit; Mr. Supreeth Fernandes – President, ICYM Belthangady Deanery; Ms. Monal Jiya Rasquinha – Secretary, ICYM Belthangady Deanery.
Laren Monis warmly welcomed the guests. The boys of Ujire brought the treasure to unveil the banner celebrating 40 years of ICYM Ujire Unit and inaugurate Thirang Utsav with a balloon release.
Mr. Melvin Fernandes delivered the inaugural speech, followed by Fr. Abel Lobo's presidential remarks. Mr. Melvin Fernandes was honored with a memento, and Monal Jiya Rasquinha delivered the vote of thanks.
Dr. Joyston D'Souza, Joint Secretary of ICYM Mangalore Diocese and representative of Belthangady Deanery, later visited the unit, he was welcomed and honored by the deanery director, president, secretary, and the unit president and secretary.
The judges for the entire competition were Delitia Pereira, Rahul Pinto and Denzyl Pereira.
They were introduced by Stephy Moras.
The first event, a fashion walk with the theme "Salam India," began with various participating units showcasing their creativity and patriotism. This was followed by lunch at 1:30 PM, after which the cultural competitions commenced. Each unit was given 20 minutes to perform a combination of dance, singing, and skits.
Then the valedictory program commenced. The dignitaries present were:

Supreeth Fernandes welcomed the guests florally and Fr. Praveen D'Souza delivered his message. All the dignitaries and the judges were given mementos as a token of appreciation. The valedictory program was hosted by Josvita D'Souza, Lady Vice President of Belthangady Deanery.

Hency Melisha Serrao delivered the vote of thanks, and the program concluded with the ICYM anthem.
With over 250 youth participants, Thirang Utsav was a successful and vibrant event, showcasing the talents and unity of the ICYM members while instilling a deep sense of patriotism.
