St Sebastian Church is a new church located in Gardady village, Belthangady Taluk.
Prior to 2013, Gardady was part of Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar. The then parish priest of Madanthyar Fr Denis D' Souza (1923 - 1942) with his hard work and with the approval of the government opened a school in Gardady.
Gardary was declared an independent parish in 2013 with the decree of Bishop Dr Aloysius P Dsouza of Mangalore.
Inauguration of newly-built St Sebastian Church , Gardady :
The newly-built St Sebastian Church of Gardady, Beltangady was inaugurated by Bishop of Mangalore diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha on May 18, 2019 in the presence of a large number of devotees and the religious.
The bishop declared the church open for devotees after ringing the new belfry for the first time along with prayers and cutting the ribbon. The bishop celebrated thanksgiving mass with the participation of a number of priests and lay people after the blessing ceremony.
The mass was followed by a felicitation programme organized by the parish pastoral council. Belthangady MLA Harish Punja , Vicar forane of Belthangady deanery Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, MLC Ivan D’ Souza and former MLA of Belthangady, Vasanth Bangera extended their wishes to parish priest and devotees. Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha presided over the function and delivered the presidential address.
Fr Alwyn Dias, provincial minister of Holy Trinity Capuchin who was the chief guest, released the souvenir. Former parish priests, assistant parish priests, donors, pastoral council vice presidents and secretaries were honored on the occasion.
Parish priest of Gardady church Fr Mark Saldanha, Parish priest of Madanthyar church Fr Basil Vas, parish priest of Badyar church Fr Melwyn D’ Souza, Fr Anil Silvano Fernandes, and others were present on the dais.
