Shivamogga, Dec 30 : December 29, 2024, marked a significant date in the history of the Diocese of Shimoga, with the celebratory inauguration of the Jubilee Year 2025.
The inaugural ceremony commenced at St. Thomas CSI Church, near Shivappa Naik Circle, Shivamogga City. Rev. Fr Santhosh Almeida led the Mercy Rosary, followed by the inaugural rite presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Francis Serrao S.J., Bishop of Diocese of Shimoga. Following the Gospel reading, Rev. Fr Santhosh Pereira offered a brief reflection on the Holy Jubilee Cross. A procession, featuring the Holy Jubilee Cross on an elaborately decorated chariot, then proceeded approximately one kilometer along the city's main thoroughfare to the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shivamogga. The procession included the chariot, followed by the Bishop, priests, religious sisters, and lay faithful. A musical band, colorful umbrellas, and altar servers in their distinctive attire enhanced the devotional atmosphere.
Upon arrival at the Cathedral, the Solemn Eucharist commenced, with the clergy vested in new Jubilee vestments. The Holy Jubilee Cross was prominently displayed in the Sanctuary. Subsequently, the holy water was blessed at the Baptismal font and sprinkled upon the congregation, followed by the singing of the Gloria.
Following the post-communion prayer, the Diocesan Pastoral Plan 2025 and the Regional Pastoral Plan, prepared by Rev. Fr. Dr. Simon Pinto, Diocesan Coordinator of Commissions, were unveiled. Fr. Clifford Roshan Pinto, Convener of the Jubilee Year Committee, offered the vote of thanks. A large and devout congregation of lay faithful participated in this significant event, along with 40 priests and an equivalent number of women religious.
